Sacramento Kings hold on to a win in a thriller against the Golden State Warriors – NBA Recap
4.8 seconds left into the game, second year sensation Klay Thompson had a chance to get the Golden State Warriors in front; he failed.
Right on the buzzer, Stephen Curry had a tough shot to win it. The ball missed the net again and the Warriors could not complete a fantastic comeback that saw them evaporate an 11 point deficit deep into the fourth quarter.
DeMarcus Cousins had a huge night with 23 points and 15 rebounds, but was stripped by Curry while making crucial shot for the Kings with just seconds remaining in the game.
Luckily for him, the Kings just held on.
The Warriors had a great start to the game and were leading by 19-11 late in the first quarter before the Kings rebounded with a 10-3 spurt to cap the period at 21-22. They continued with the momentum, opening the second quarter with an 8-2 run to take the lead. Nine minutes into the frame, an Aaron Brooks three pointer pushed the Kings lead to 47-35. Back came the Warriors with a Thompson inspired 7 – zip run, but Jimmer Fredette restored the lead to 8 as the teams headed into the locker room.
Back to back shots from Cousins made it a ten point game early in the third, but the Warriors responded again, this time with a 10 point unanswered run to tie the game at 56. What followed though was an emphatic 16-to-nothing run which seemingly broke the game open.
Or so the Kings thought.
From 2:35 left in the third to the first five minutes in the fourth quarter, the Warriors outscored Sacramento 20-9 to make it 76-81. Kings punched back with an 8-2 run to restore an 11 point lead, but the Bay Area team sniffed a win and responded with a 14-4 burst to make it a one point game with 31.3 seconds to go.
Marcus Thornton added 16 points for the Kings, who also got 12 from Brooks and 10 points from Isaiah Thomas. The Warriors were led by a 22 points and 7 rebounds performance from Klay Thompson while David Lee has 20 points.
