Sacramento Kings in stunning comeback win over New Orleans Hornets 100 – 92 – NBA Recap(Part 1)
The Sacramento Kings secured a superb come from behind victory over the New Orleans Hornets with a spending final quarter. The 100 – 92 loss at the New Orleans Arena was a real kick in the teeth for the Hornets who have been haunted by poor performances
throughout the current NBA season.
New Orleans were ahead for much of the game and looked pretty comfortable going into the final period. The game however turned on its head and the Hornets head coach could only watch in despair as another victory slipped through his fingers.
"There's nowhere to run. I told the players that. You can't get out of this. We'll find out who's committed and who's not because this is a tough time we're going through." Monty Williams said.
On the other hand, the Kings mounted a superb fight back to dislodge the Hornets grip on the game and take a memorable win back to Sacramento. Their win came off the back of a committed team performance but one man stuck out for his display; DeMarcus Cousins.
The young Kings centre has been labelled a trouble maker since arriving in the NBA and was almost on his way out of the franchise earlier this season, but things have turned around completely since then. He is now an asset to the side and signified his importance
once again with a splendid double-double performance, game high 28 points and game high 19 rebounds.
His new coach Keith Smart was delighted with Cousins and praised his performance as well as attitude after the game.
"I think people had this young man pegged the wrong way," Smart said. "He just needed direction and someone to lead him in a direction. I can't take all the credit for it. This guy is willing to listen to what I am trying to say to him, what our coaching
staff is trying to say for him."
Other than Cousins, Tyreke Evans also put in a commendable performance. The point guard scored 20 points and had 4 assists while Isaiah Thomas came off the bench for 17 points and 6 assists.
New Orleans weren’t on top of their game coming into this match but they started off on the front foot. The Hornets were aggressive early on and began the first quarter with a 15 – 4 sprint. Just before the end of the quarter they achieved a 13 point lead
at 29 – 16 but the Kings brought it into single digits; going into the second period trailing at 29 – 20.
There wasn’t much respite to be found in the next segment for Sacramento as New Orleans continued to push them into a corner. As the Kings tried to lessen the gap, the Hornets went on an 11 – 0 rampage that put them up 43 – 27. The first half ended with
New Orleans double-digit advantage intact at 52 – 39.
