Sacramento Kings pull off a huge comeback win over the Milwaukee Bucks: NBA Update
Playing their first game under the new head coach Keith Smart, the Sacramento Kings recorded a terrific comeback victory over the Milwaukee Bucks here at the Power Balance Pavilion. The Kings trailed for much of the game, at one
point by as much as 21, but charged back in the 4th quarter to grab an impressive 103 – 100 win.
Marcus Thornton was the leading scorer for Sacramento with 27 points and also had 5 assists. Extremely impressive performances were also recorded by point guard Tyreke Evans, 26 points and 10 assists, and centre DeMarcus Cousins,
19 points and 15 rebounds.
Brandon Jennings was the key man for Milwaukee as he led all scorers with 31 points and also recorded 7 assists. In the absence of starting centre Andrew Bogut, Drew Gooden stepped up with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Stephen Jackson
was the third Bucks player in double figures with 13.
A topsy turvy game saw Sacramento start out stronger and they were up 15 – 11 with 7:31 on the clock. Milwaukee used an 8 – 4 run to restore parity and by the time the first quarter ended were leading at 30 – 25.
The Bucks continued their ascendency with an 8 – 2 run to start the second quarter. A 13 – 2 run that came slightly after the halfway mark further consolidated Milwaukee’s position and they went into the break leading at 58 – 37.
Sacramento came back into the game after the break and immediately started the recovery with a 6 – 3 spurt. A 7 – 0 run later in the period saw them cut the deficit to single digits, although the Bucks nullified that gain before
the quarter ended at 82 – 68.
The Kings stormed into the final period with a 13 – 7 blitz, signalling their intention of going all out for the win. The game though still looked like going Milwaukee’s way when a Gooden free throw gave them a 98 – 90 lead with
over 4 minutes remaining.
Then came a furious Sacramento charge which sent the crowd into frenzy, and left their opponents helpless to respond. The Kings began with two free throws from Tyreke on a 13 – 2 run that ended with them grabbing the win at 103
– 100, Evans finishing it off as well with another two free throws.
