Sacramento Kings shocking win over the Phoenix Suns 113-108
The Sacramento Kings defeated the Phoenix Suns 113-108 in a shocker played at the US Airways Centre on Sunday night. After losing five games in a row, the Kings have finally turned the table around for themselves, without their key player, rookie DeMarcus
Cousins.
The first quarter was a close, as the Suns led by 2 points with the scores at 32-30. Steve Nash contributed 7 points for the Suns in the quarter.
Suns played the second quarter with the same spirit, as Marcin Gortat added 8 points to take the led to 7 points, with scores 57-50 at the end of the quarter.
After the first half, the Kings managed to compose themselves and stage a fierce come-back, as Carl Landry made 12 points, closing the gap by 3 points. At the end of the third quarter, the Suns led with 81 points to the Kings 78.
The Kings took the lead 84-83 from Samuel Dalembert’s lay-up with 9:22 minutes to play in the final quarter. The Kings never looked back, as Greene took over the attack, with his 12 points coming at the right time. The Kings managed a shocking victory over
the Suns, 113-108.
Cousins was absent from the roster after his dispute with team-mate Donte Greene, on Saturday’s close loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Cousins was reportedly upset that Greene did not pass him the ball in the final minutes play, instead giving it to Tyreke Evans, who missed a 3-point shot. Coach Paul Westphal refused to say whether Cousins will stay out for the coming games, while the organization
will review the incident. "We missed Cuz tonight but we couldn't dwell on it," Greene said. "We had to come out and still play well."
Greene played a huge part in the win as he made 19 points with 12 of them in the fourth quarter. Tyreke Evans scored 21 points, as Carl Landry contributed with 20 for the Kings in their first victory against the Suns in 11 attempts. Samuel Dalembert, who
replaced Cousins, hit 18 points and had 15 rebounds. The King’s coach was pleased with his team’s victory and said that they were trying their best in the previous games, but today they finally pressed through.
Nash made 22 points, the highest by any player in the match and also provided 18 assists and 2 rebounds. His team-mate Gortat scored 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Suns.
"They just kept scoring and kept scoring and we couldn't stop them," Gortat said. "And when we didn't stop them, we couldn't execute. So, I would say it's obviously a really tough loss which cost us a lot."
The Kings will meet the Thunder as the Suns will face the Utah Jazz on Thursday. It will be interesting to see how the Kings carry the momentum of beating the Suns forward into the next few games.
