Sacred Falls triumphant in BMW Doncaster Mile
Sacred Falls took a solid victory in the BMW Doncaster Mile (Group 1 Handicap) at Randwick in Australia on Saturday, April 20, 2013. He was not performing consistently over the past few events, but bounced back strongly this time around.
The young challenger from New Zealand was not rated as the favourite to succeed in the event, as there were some better runners up against him. Due to this, he did not manage to win the confidence of the bookies and some punters also hesitated to gamble
money on him.
The four-year-old colt was given a general starting price of 18 to 1, which clearly suggested that he was not even expected to finish in the top three. Despite that, he displayed solid form and secured a victory in the race by less than a length.
He was given a tough time in the 1 mile event and things were not easy at all. However, he still managed to display strong nerves and finished ahead of the race favourite stallion Pierro, who was given a starting price of 5 to 2.
Sacred Falls started off his career in 2012 and was quite impressive in his first ever outing. He was up against some very good runners, but proved to be better than all of them in the end, securing a comfortable victory.
Afterwards, the Chris Waller trainee went onto win a couple of more events, completing the first ever hat-trick of his career. This was quite fantastic for his team and he shifted the entire focus to the next season.
However, things did not start well for him in the ongoing year, as he struggled to finish strongly in the first couple of races of the season. He bounced back in his penultimate race and followed it up with a victory at Randwick.
According to Waller, he was looking to pull out of the race, as the conditions were not easy at all.
The trainer stated, “We thought about not running. Sacred Falls came to me with a record of six from six but then it went pear shaped. I scratched this horse before what was to be his second-up start because of the wet track.”
