“Sacrifice and Hard Training” is Contador’s recipe of success as the Spaniard is already back on his bike for the season ahead
Spanish rider Alberto Contador has already started training for the 2012 season. The cyclist was given a two-year ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which prevents him from cycling in all the major cycling events in the coming season.
Contador will return to professional cycling on August 6th 2012, and he will be able to ride the Vuelta a Espana for the season ahead.
He wrote on his twitter page, “Going back to work, Sacrifice and hard training, this is our sole secret”.
“Thanks all for your expressions of support. I am extremely grateful. This will make me train harder still ‘Where there is will there's a way,’” he continued.
The Spaniard has already started the 2012 season at the Tour de San Luis and claimed two stages along with the second overall position at the race.
However, the ban also disqualifies him from all the victories since the Tour de France 2010 to date.
Contador was accused of doping during the Tour de France 2010 and both WADA and UCI appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The cyclist repeatedly denied all the allegations and briefed that the UCI banned substance clenbuterol entered his system through the meat that he ate during the race.
The decision experienced a lot of setbacks before the final announcement was made on February 5th.
The Jury decided that the Spaniard deliberately consumed the drug to enhance his performance and was banned from professional cycling.
His ineligibility from the Tour de France 2010 resulted in the Luxembourg cyclist, Andy Schleck, becoming the overall winner of the race.
Contador has also been stripped off from the overall win at the Giro d’ Italia 2011, which makes Michele Scarponi the general classification leader of the event.
Alberto is now targeting the remaining half of the coming season and is training hard to get the maximum out of it.
He cited during the press conference held on Tuesday, "I'm sure of one thing. I want to come back to ride the best races. I'll train clean as I've always done. Right now even though my morale is low I know I'll come back just as strong".
It will be interesting to see if Contador can regain his lost glory after his return as the ban is certainly a big blow on his credibility.
