Sacristy all set to extend her 2 race win streak in the Forward Gal Stakes
Peachtree Stable’s Sacristy has finally accustomed herself to winning ways after two second place finishes in an attempt to break her maiden special weight race.
She finally did it at Churchill Downs on 10 November, 2011, and started her 2012 campaign as a 3-year-old on a high note, getting hold of Gulfstream Park’s early sprint, the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes on New Year’s day.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Pulpit, out of mare Christies Treasure by Belong To Me, Sacristy is now pointed towards the Grade 2. $200,000 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 29 January, 2012.
After her impressive victory in the Old Hat Stakes, where she rounded off wide on the final turn to prepare for her final move in the stretch, Sacristy conjured up a mouth watering rally from sixth position to take the race away from Say A Novena, completing a magnificent comeback from behind to claim victory in 1 minute and 10.91 seconds in the 6 furlong dash on dirt.
Sacristy won the race by 1 ¾ lengths as the 6 to 5 pick, as Bet to Win finished third on the day.
“We’re happy with the way she’s training and we’re looking forward to Sunday’s race,” Catalano said.
Trained by Wayne Catalano, Sacristy failed to break her maiden in her first two attempts, and on both occasions, she missed it by a whisker, finishing second twice.
Her first attempt came at Arlington Park, under J. Alvarado, on 11 September, 2011, where she lost to Bet To Win.
Her second attempt was at Keeneland, where she was downed by Applauding in second, on 14 October, 2011.
She then kept it real in her third attempt at Churchill Downs on 10 November, 2011, and broke her maiden by an impressive 6 ¾ lengths.
In the Forward Gal Stakes, the biggest threat to Sacristy could come from Robsham Stable’s Broadway’s Alibi, who will be riding for her third straight win in the Forward Gal Stakes.
The Todd Pletcher trained 3-year-old filly broke her maiden at second asking at Del Mar on 10 September, 2011, and is exiting a victory in an allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream Park over six and a half furlongs.
