Sacristy to go two turns for the first time in the Kentucky Oaks
Peachtree Stable owned 3-year-old filly, Sacristy, who came in for Mamma Kimbo for the 138th running of the Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on 4 May, 2012, has never tried two turns before in six career starts, and the most stretched out she has gone in six starts has been seven furlongs.
It was surely be a daunting task for the Kentucky bred daughter of Pulpit, but trainer Wayne M. Catalano is confident that his filly will be up to the mark come the Oaks day.
“She’s feeling good and doing good, so that’s when you’re supposed to try them, right?” asked Wayne Catalano, who trains Sacristy for the Peachtree Stable of John Fort. “I don’t know about the distance for her, but a mile and an eighth might be questionable for a lot of those fillies.”
The Kentucky Oaks is expected to reel in a full gate on 4 May, 2012, at Churchill Downs, and of the limit of 14 filly exceeds than scratched will be announced.
Bred by Elisabeth Alexander in Kentucky, Sacristy started her 2012 campaign with a win in the Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes at Gulfstream Park on 1 January, 2012, and succeeded over Say A Novena and Bet To Win, who finished second and third, respectively.
Under jockey Kent Desormeaux, Sacristy covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 10.91 seconds. She then stayed at Gulfstream Park to compete in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes over the venue’s dirt course.
On 29 January, 2012, she finished third to winner Broadway’s Alibi in the seven furlong test, as Say A Novena placed herself in second in back to back races.
Shipped to Keeneland, out of Belong To Me mare Christies Treasure, Sacristy ran in the Grade 2 Beaumont Stakes over the venue’s synthetic surface on 15 April, 2012, and finished second to winner, Gypsy Robin , who covered the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 28.46 seconds, as Livi Makenzie finished third.
Sacristy worked on 27 April ahead of the Kentucky Oaks with the likes of Hard Not to Like, On Fire Baby, Yara, and Oaks Lily.
