  1. i have mixed feelings. i liked being in the presence of a "clear" greatest player ever. But......suddenly.....there has been a changing of the guards. I kind of wanted to see fed win so he could take down pete's slam record, however, I was kind of happy to see nadal win. Nadal trys SOO HARD on every point and wants to win so badly, and just so happened to peak at the same time as the great federer...so to see nadal break through all of that "greatest player ever on his best surface" talk and overcome all odds, was truly a sight to see.

  2. There is more to the game than winning matches.  As Billy Jean King said, it is who you are as a person.  Federer is a good and, in his own words, happy person.  He has brought so much to the game and to the world.  In addition to his extraordinary talent, his beauty, artistry, grace, kindness and generosity is an inspiration to us all.

  3. It will probably comfort you a bit to know that Federer has no idea who you are and therefore cares not one iota about your well-being

It was an exciting match, though

  4. Sad day for you unfortunately because you're a Federer fan. I'm a Nadal fan, so I'm delighted.

  5. Best day ever!!! I am so happy Nadal won...YAY! :)

  6. There is a power shift coming from Federer to Nadal. I think it is about time because it was getting kind of boring watching the same players win every tournament every year. This rivalry will be better for tennis in the long run.

  7. Im very HAPPY ! words cant describe. sorry ! I was very nervous and scared when Rafa lost those championship points in the 4th set !! :( I was soooo worried. But it was an amazing match and the better man won in the end.

    Vamos Rafa

  8. It's a good one. Federer is an amazing player, but he's getting old, 27, and Nadal, 22, would have surpassed him eventually.

For it to be in such an exciting fashion is great.

  9. After an epic battle, neither has anything to be ashamed of.  It could have went either way, although Nadal deserved the victory.  Don't worry...The both of them still have a long way to go

  10. well i'm happy just because Nadal is so hot

  11. It's an awesome day. Nadal finally won for a change. I mean Federer has 5 Wimbledon titles, and Nadal deserves at least one. And he's hot!

  12. i am so happy BIG nadal fan i am so glad he won

  13. sad

  14. I'm a giant Federer fan and I'm feeling two things - absolutly gutted that he couldnt go that extra wee bit and beat rafa today, and then compeltely relieved that hes still more than capable of winning grand slams. So many people wrote him off for this, and he proved them very wrong. Clearly Federer is still the Federer we know and love, clearly not on the decline and he played FANTASTIC for most of the match. We all know he could of won just like Nadal could of won last year, but that makes me happy not sad. I mean, hes clearly gonna win more grand slams, hes still only got Rafa in his way. Does make me sad tho he will prob lose his ranking (for a short time). Be grateful also he lost to Nadal not anyone else, someone with such an amazing respect and modesty. I dunno, Fed is amazing and hes gonna go down in history. I'm not sure how I am feeling about hard court season tho... less Nadal but more other players. I am sure he can prove his critics wrong again, as I feel he did today :)

  15. The thing is, Roger had everything to lose whereas Rafa had everything to go for, which puts a lot more pressure on Roger.

I too am so upset as Federer is my absolute living tennis legend but I know he will come back as he so nearly did today.  This isn't the end and this match shows how amazing he still is and that he is still on top form despite recent speculation.  Tennis is always 95% skill and 5 % luck and I believe that 5 % was on Rafas side towards the end (although I am not denying his unbelievable skill and talent).

Federer's my Wimbledon champion and always will be.

    Lets wait for Wimbledon 2009!

  16. both really

end of an era, start of a new one

  17. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later - he had won about 40 games at wimbledon without loss. And 65 on grass !

I though Nadal was very gracious in victory

the best final i have seen in a long long time - McEnroe v borg 30 years ago was pretty good. Although a completely different game then.

I would say Nadal played better especialy in sets 1 & 2 - however in sets 3 & 4 when it really mattered Federer suddenly found shots that really counted.

  18. Nadal deserved the victory overall.  He was the best all-rounder on the day.

  19. I have always loved Roger Federer. I think he is the best player to play the game. It was only a matter of time before he lost on grass. I also have a lot of respect for Nadal. I wanted Roger to win because Rafael is young and when Roger's retired the court is all Nadal's.     Great Match today though.

  20. i was too happy to see Nadal win. FINALLY.

  21. Good day for me...I love rafa and he is a great competitor and he really deserved that win and thats what he wanted for a long time.

  22. haha yeah im sad 2:( hahahaha

i wish he won. that wuld have been an amazing turn around. but they both played amazing. and that was the longest match ever in wimbledon history... so they both have the right to be worn out!

im happy for nadal. but i love fed and i wish he won!

oh well.. he said he is coming back next year... so next year will go to him! haha. h**l do good at the us. open :)

  23. I am so happy for Nadal. He deserve it after being runner up for last two years

  24. It was sad. He played some really great tennis today and it hurts that he lost. I'm glad that he had nice things to say about Rafa and how Rafa was truly grateful to beat Roger Federer the greatest of all time.  Look at the positives, hardcourt season is coming up and next year he can come back to Wimbledon and not have to worry about trying to win 6 in a row and  defeding the title. He won't have the pressure and he'll just play great tennis, playing to win for himself and not trying to break any records. He'll win for sure.

  25. well, I'd say yes,  a sad day, myself.  Losing to a guy who carries himself like an itinerant gardner.  Nadal will never win hearts the way Federer has.  Enough with the ****-picking, Rafa, please.  The other fairly obvious point is while Nadal has a clear advantage at Roland Garros and has now edged Wimbledon this doesn't quite make him the No1 in the way Fed has been.  Like Rafa is going to win the US.  Or the Australian.  You need to get to the final, at least, to do that.

The other thing nagging away with Rafa is the cloud of suspicion over him regarding performance-enhancing drugs.   Of course only he and a few others know the answer to that.  But saying he's always tested negative so he must be clean is about as naive as it gets.  Speaking from my experience with marijuana it's remarkable how you can cheat a test if you know its coming.  The way of really finding out a cheat is to 1)  To have a test good enough to detect  the newer  performance enhancing drugs and 2) Turn up off-season without warning and test.

The problem, as the Balco scandal shows, is the dopers are always ahead of the testers.    Personally, I think it will be interesting in the years to come when they are to retrospectively test for substances they can't detect yet in relation to Nadal.  One thing's for sure, his Uncle certainly isn't going to be confessing.
