Sadam Ali grabs an impressive last round knockout win over experienced Franklin Gonzalez – Boxing News
Sadam Ali, the surging young undefeated welterweight, delivered a flawless performance, collecting a technical knockout win over experienced Dominican brawler, Franklin Gonzalez, in the last round of the eight-round bout held on June 2, 2012.
The ring for the bout was set up at Aviator Sports Complex situated in Brooklyn, New York, United States and the above duo headlined the pay-per-view. This was the first ever fight card which was organised and promoted by Sadam Ali’s World Kid Promotions
and therefore was a memorable night for the young Brooklyn lad.
The showdown was co-headlined by the non-title four-round bout between Armin Mrkanovic and Daniel Pietch. The bout was a classic, giving fans just what they needed from Sadam Ali.
Ali, 23, entered his career's 15th bout, boasting an undefeated streak. The young lad, also known as ‘World Kid’, has nailed eight of his opponents by knockout and was coming from a knockout win over rookie Boris Berg.
His opponent, Franklin, 36, though possessed an upper hand as far as experience is concerned, exhibited a seriously tarnished resume. The southpaw Dominican proud just returned on the win track after receiving six consecutive losses and grabbed two consecutive
wins over Wilson Hurtado and Eddie Hyland.
A bird’s eyes view of resume of both men clearly showed that Franklin stands no chance at all in front of the somewhat invincible Sadam. Ali not only boasted a flawless and impressive resume but also possessed an almost equal win and knockout ratio as well.
In addition, Ali was brawling in front of his hometown crowd who motivated him every now and then. From the very first round, Ali capitalised his height advantage optimally and connected powerful jabs by easily penetrating Franklin’s weak defences.
The bout somewhat seemed to be a one-sided sparring session as Gonzalez hardly connected any damage inflicting jabs. At two minutes and 22 seconds of the last round, Franklin lost all his gas and senses and eventually got flattened on the ring floor after
receiving a beautiful left-right combination.
After the bout Ali, who grabbed his very first title as well that is the WBU Americas Welterweight Title, stated, “It was a great night and I just have to thank my fans”, said the 2008 U.S. Olympian. I wanted to get the knockout so bad for them and it was
a fitting end to a great night.”
With this win Sadam has elongated his streak to 15 wins and is now the WBU Americas welterweight champion as well. Franklin, on the contrary, has received his 10th career and sixth knockout loss.
