Question:

Saddle Pad Sizes?

So I'm a little new at owning my own tack, and right now I'm using a medium tree saddle (17') but I'm not sure what size pad I'll need. I've been looking on the Internet, and I was wondering if these dimensions sound like they will fit with that particular saddle.

Size: Spine: 23 1/2" x Drop: 22"

If not, could you let me know what size I should be looking for?

I'm looking for a contour pad thats shaped similar to the saddle.

Thanks Guys

  1. well it all depends on the saddle. if it is a dressage saddle it will need a longer pad and a jumping saddle might need a smaller pad. you should measure your saddle and see. but good luck. Sabrina

  2. I use an all purpose saddle pad. It fits my little 14h pony and the huge 16.2h horse that I am riding. They are easy to wash and you can get them in fun patterns and colors. I put a squisy pad under on top of the pad (directly under the saddle) and it works great and comforts the horses back and crest.

  3. Size: Spine: 23 1/2" x Drop: 22"

    This measurement means that it is:

    ____________________________________

          <-----------------23 1/2"--------------------->

    and the drop is from the top of the spine down (vertical) on one side.

    Take out a tape measure and measure against your saddle and see how it looks...you could use a towel just to get the idea.. You want all of the leather to be on the pad to protect from sweat.

    Hope this helped.

    EDIT----I just read where you said you want a contour pad... look for one that is shaped like the saddle and then check the measurements. The one you described is just a square.

  4. Most of the time the pads are sized the same as the saddle. Look for one that is made to fit a 17" saddle. If they're not sized in inches, see if there's a chart that compares S,M,L to saddle measurements. I would guess that in most pads a 17" would be L. M is usally for 16-16.5, S is for ponies.

  5. yes that should be, If your on a pony use a pony sized pad but I would get a horse sized any ways.
