  1. use the crupper unless you can adjust the gullet to stop the problem.  Not only do flat backed horses have a problem, but mutton withered horses, horses built with the croup higher than the wither, and  some Arabs with their barrel shaped middles can also have it.

  2. THE SADDLE EITHER DOESN'T FIT VERY GOOD OR YOU NEED TO USE A BETTER NUHMNAH!

TRY SHEEPSKIN NUMNAHS THEY STAY ON THE HORSE WITHERS AND PREVENT THE SADDLE FROM SLIPPIING!

  3. Get a numnah with padding built up at the front sides.

  4. your horse has probably changed shape. when you put the saddle on to the pony, and see whether it looks to wide. When you sit in it, and it slips forwards or down over the whithers, then it is to wide. As it is a synthetic saddle, you can easily get hold of another gullet and put in the narrower gullet. See how you get on with this. You can also use a different numnah. The best numnahs i have ever used are gel-eze numnahs. They come in half and full pads. They are a sheepskin numnah, with gel inserts @ either the front or back, or both, and therefore raise the saddle. I find them particularly helpful during the spring when the hunt horses have lost alot of weight off their whithers which makes the back of the saddle slide and therefore rub. You can use a crupper, if it helps to keep the saddle in place, ie, for schooling or hacking etc. good luck

  5. If the saddle is slipping forward then it doesn't fit correctly.  Horses, like humans, change shape depending on weight, muscle tone, etc and as such a saddle that fitted before may no longer fit correctly.  Although numnuhs and saddle pads can ease the situation in the short run the best thing is to get the saddle checked by a reputable qualified saddler who can recommend the best solution.  As it is an adjustable saddle it may just need a change of gullet as it could be a little wide now.
