Question:

Saddle to far up?

Okay, after I looked at this picture i thought my saddle was to far up so I started riding with it a little farther back. It doesn't ride any better or any worse since I ahve moved it.

I was just wondering if it looks like his saddle looks to far up to you. He was VERY high strung at this show than normal...I thought it was just because it was only his second time in an indoor arena...but could it have been him resisting the saddle pressure on his witheres. If it is even on his withers lol

Thanks for any answers.

  1. No, it doesn't look too far ahead for me. Althought, some horses prefer the saddle higher/lower, so it could be his personal preferance. Try experimenting.

If it was his second time in an indoor arena, he could just be excited about the new surroundings. My horse flipped her lid the first time she was introduced to it. But keep trying, he'll either calm down or get used to the saddle where it is!

    Good luck =)

  2. The saddle looks fine, but do you actually show your horse without shoes and without heels?  I would worry more about getting another farrier, or is there a specific reason why your horse's feet looks that way?  Nice horse, by the way.

  3. The saddle doesn't seem to be too far up. It's a little hard to tell with your hands in the way.

If you want to check for pressure, just slide your hand between your horse and the saddle(while you're riding) and get a feel as to the pressure that is there, if there are areas where there is more pressure, or if your saddle just fits snug and comfortable.

Although riding with the saddle just slighty back should be fine as well, especially since your horse does not seem to react to it. Normally, you'd want the saddle not to sit too far forward because it could pinch his withers, and also, it puts pressure on his shoulders when moving. Especially if you're asking for extends, the saddle can make a huge different in giving him the shoulder room to move around and stretch out.

  4. The saddle's fine. Might have been the accoustics in the covered arena that set him off.

    Cute horse BTW.

  5. i dont think it looks bad.. just check that you can slide your hand under it with the girth on to see if its pinching him anywhere.. if not then your fine!

    beautiful horse by the way!

  6. When you click on the photo, it says that it is private.  It's not available for us to see, but you and your flickr friends can see it.

  7. I tried to look at your picture, but it says the picture is private.  You need to set it for public viewing.

  8. To me it looks ok, but I would really have to exam where the shoulder blade lies vs bars of the saddle to see..

  9. It looks a little itsy bitsy tiny bit too far up, but i wouldn't know, I stopped riding about 6 years ago, i only watch shows on TV and stuff now...

  10. first of all, I don't see where Bobbi can tell if your does or does not have shoes on?? he is a very pretty horse! great conformation, the saddle looks just slightly too far forward...
