Saddler’s Rock in for the seasonal success through the Artemis Goodwood Cup (British Champions Series)
Even though there are ten three-year and above runners gathered for the Group 2 Artemis Goodwood Cup (British Champions Series), there are just two who are truly note worthy as the rest still have to add gloss to their profiles and performance. The race
will be staged at Goodwood over two miles on Thursday, 2nd August.
Colour Vision and Saddler’s Rock are to become the centre of attention for the race today with the latter leading the field with 2 to 1 odds.
Saddler’s Wells’ four-year-old bay colt has raced only twice during the new season and both the times he was placed, no victories so far. However, out of the six times that he raced in the previous season, the bay colt won in half of his outings.
Only two career starts for the four-year-old were in graded company.
Saddler’s Rock won the Group 2 Stobart Doncaster Cup on 9th September, 2011 at Doncaster over two miles and two furlongs. He was not prominent during the initial stages of the race. With four furlongs out, he was still trotting around halfway
of the distance. With five more furlongs still to go, he rode on to track the leaders three furlong out. Switching right and then leading the final furlong made him win the race by the margin of four lengths.
The favourite entry for the race, Opinion Poll, ended up as the runner-up while the third position was reserved by, Motrice.
The four-year-old out of, Grecian Bride, had his seasonal debut in the Seamus & Rosemary McGrath Memorial Saval Beg Stakes (Listed Race) on 8th June, 2012 at Leopardstown over a mile and six furlongs.
Saddler’s Rocks settled in second as the race was won by, Midnight Soprano, as he led over the final half length of the track.
He was paired up with jockey, Johnny Murtagh for the race.
The next try of the John M. Oxx trained was in the Group 1 Gold Cup (British Champions Series) on 21st June, 2012 at the Royal Ascot race course over two miles and four furlongs.
The race was won by, Colour Vision, while the Michael O’Flynn owned settled third in line behind the winner.
The four-year-old has taken fair enough time for settling in the new season and should now post a success through making the most out of the race today.
