Question:

Sadness, depression, what?

a situation i know of:

a mother and a daughter. daughter is honor roll, good person, but not exceptionally great or the best at anything. mother expects her to be 'perfect'; just like the daughter's friends and family.

mother does not give same expectations to son, so she is a lot easier on him. the mother takes her anger out on her daughter a lot, even for little things. if the son does the same "little things" as the daughter, he doesn't get scolded.

mother/father fight loudly and frequently, and often the mother yells at daughter after these fights.

not any physical abuse, but verbal.

daughter is sensitive, takes things harshly and is often hurt/crying.

daughter does have friends, however she seems to not open up much about serious things.

is she just sad, or is it possible there is a mental illness developing?

  1. mental illness prolly

  2. Id say ur sad for now. but if it continues you could end up with a bad case of depression. U need to tell some1 and need to get some help. that is Child cruelty

  3. Im assuming this is you you are talking about.

And yes, "hypothetically" this girl would be under great emotional abuse.  This would definitely contribute to the depression.
