Worcestershire defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 Park, Milton Keynes in England, on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
The hosts struggled against the quality spin bowling of Pakistan’s off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal, and managed only 129 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Worcestershire did have a few problems, chasing the target but achieved it easily in the end without too http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499
drama.
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 batsman, Vikram Solanki, was in impressive form and scored the match with an unbeaten 62 for Worcestershire.
The pitch was a touch slower, which gave an advantage to the spinners. It was expected to get even slower in the second half of the game, which forced the home team’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-James-Hall-c44408, to bat first after winning the toss.
Northamptonshire’s innings was started by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bilal-Shafayat-c1162. Although the pair collected 30 runs for the first wicket, none of the runs came off the bat of the latter, who got dismissed for a duck in the fourth over of the game.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/White-c96514 played well and looked quite comfortable in the middle. He failed to bat for a longer period though and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 33 runs to the total from 27 deliveries. The stylish opener struck four fours and one massive six in
his cameo innings.
Wicketkeeper batsman, Niall O’Brien also looked in good form. He also ended up with 33 runs off 27 balls, striking four fours and a towering six. He was dismissed in the 12th over of the innings, but the team was in a good position.
However, the momentum was shifted with the visitors, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-George-Wakely-c43114 got out after collecting just 10 runs from 11 balls, leaving the team at 80/4.
Lower-order batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610 played well, scoring 38 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. They put the team back on track and threatened to take the total past 150 at that stage of the game.
However, Ajmal was in no mood to let the opposition free their arms. The wily spinner took four wickets in the final couple of overs bowled, restricting the home team below 130.
Northamptonshire ended their innings on 129/9 and would have been disappointed with the end result.
In reply, the Worcestershire batsmen struggled at the start of their innings. The team lost four wickets for just 45 runs on the board. However, Solanki and the visitors’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daryl-Mitchell-c52533 rescued their side from trouble.
The pair put together an unbeaten 85 runs for the fifth wicket stand, guiding Worcestershire to a six-wicket win. They ended up with 62 and 40 in their respective outings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Lucas-c1332 caused a lot of problems for the visitors, as he dismissed three batsmen, but lacked support from the other end.
