Saeed Ajmal dismisses suspicions over bowling action – Cricket News update
Responding to the complaints registered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his “suspect” bowling action, Pakistan spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 has stated that minor complaints do not bother him anymore at this stage of his career.
“After playing for so many years, these things do not put pressure on me anymore,” he said.
The off-spinner’s action was first called into question following the Test series against England, which the Men in Green swept, 3-0. He claimed a total of 24 scalps in three Tests, and dominated the series as the top wicket-taker.
However, the English batsmen expressed concern about Ajmal’s deliveries, and a slip-up with the media, during which the 34-year-old claimed the ICC had given him special permission to straighten his arm beyond the permitted degree, only aggravated the situation.
The ICC clarified that while no special permission had been provided, the spinner’s action was well within the board’s tolerance level. Despite this, the issue was recently taken up again by the BCCI. The board expressed doubts about the legality of Ajmal’s
signature delivery known as the doosra, which he employed to dismiss http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 on March 18.
“This is not the first time questions have been raised about my action,” the spin bowler said. “The ICC said there was nothing wrong with my action even during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 series. So why should anyone question that?”
Owing to the persistent nature of complaints and controversy, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 issued a formal statement which confirmed the legality of Ajmal’s deliveries.
“In Saeed Ajmal's case we have tested him, we have monitored him even in the live situations, he bowls within the allowed degree of tolerance. So there isn't any issue with him,” ICC chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 confirmed.
Ajmal has been a vital part of the Pakistani bowling attack, with his doosra successfully baffling many a batsman. Pakistan will be looking to exploit that in the Asia Cup final, which they will be playing against host team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 today at the Shere
Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
