Saeed Ajmal optimistic about Pakistan’s chances in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Champions Trophy 2013 – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s premier off-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 has praised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for organizing a preparatory camp in Abbottabad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and feels that the hard work is going to help the Green Shirts perform well in the
mega event, which is going to be played next month in England.
Weather and conditions in Abbottabad are close to those expected in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and the cricketer from Faisalabad believes that the camp was quite productive and the players have worked very hard.
“Yes I think it was an excellent and really innovative idea from the Pakistan Cricket Board and the coaching staff. The camp was very enjoyable and very well organised, it was hard work but the weather was great,” Ajmal expressed while speaking exclusively
to Pakpassion.
Historically, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 batsmen have struggled in English conditions where the ball tends to move more in the air and off the pitch as compared to the sub-continent. With a strong fast bowling line-up, the Green Shirts will have a great chance to deliver
the goods in the Champions Trophy if their batsmen can cope with the difficult conditions.
Ajmal revealed that the conditions in Abbottabad were in favour of the fast bowlers, which provided very good practice for the batsmen.
“The wickets in Abbottabad were very conducive to seam bowling and our batsmen got a flavour of what they can expect in England during the Champions Trophy, which will undoubtedly be beneficial to them,” said the wily off-spinner. “The wickets were prepared
to replicate English conditions and that was achieved, so yes all in all it was very good preparation.”
Ajmal has been the spearhead of Pakistan’s bowling line-up over the last couple of years and is regarded among the most threatening bowlers in the world. However, his role in England will be limited, with the pitches more in favour of the fast bowlers.
Pakistan have dropped some underperforming senior players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 for the mega event, which means that the onus is on the younger lot of batsmen to do well in the Champions Trophy.
