Saeed Ajmal should only be played in important matches, feels Tauseef Ahmed – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani off-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859, but urged the selectors to use him carefully and help prolong his career in international cricket.
The 34-year-old debuted for Pakistan in 2008 and soon cemented his place in the national team in all three formats of the game. Over the last couple of years, Ajmal has played a massive role in Pakistan’s success, becoming an unsolved mystery for even the
best of the players in the business.
Currently, the off-spinner from Faisalabad is rated amongst the best bowlers in the world and dominates http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 bowling rankings in every format.
Tauseef however, thinks that the Green Shirts are over reliant on Ajmal’s brilliance and wants the selectors and the team management to be careful about him.
The former cricketer, who has been closely monitoring the domestic cricket in recent times, expressed that there are not enough quality spinners coming through the ranks, hence, advising the authorities to play Ajmal only in important matches.
Tauseef said, “Ajmal is an asset for Pakistan and he is not getting any younger. He should be handled with great care. He has bowled tirelessly and won matches for Pakistan. To enable him to keep going for a long time, he needs to be played only in important
matches and series because there is no off-spinner in the domestic circuit who could replace him if he gets injured.”
The Faisalabad-born cricketer already has more than 270 international scalps under his belt, winning a lot of fixtures for the country singlehandedly. The wily off-spinner’s most impressive performance came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 earlier this year in UAE, when
he dismantled the number one ranked Test team of the globe with the help of fellow spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691.
In order to groom young spinners for future, Tauseef wants http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board to organise camps, where the former cricketers train the juniors.
“Specialised camps for spinners will allow young players to learn a lot, work on specific areas and ultimately a good prospect can be spotted,” he added.
