Saeed Ajmal up for the challenge against Australia – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s premier off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal, is geared up for the limited-over series against Australia but expressed that he is not going to unleash any new delivery in the competition.
The three-match One Day International (ODI) series between the two teams starts today at Sharjah, which will be followed by as many T20s, with both the sides looking to gain confidence ahead of the ICC World T20 2012, to be held in
Sri Lanka in September/October.
Over the last decade, Australia have had a massive psychological edge over the Green Shirts, with Pakistan not winning a single ODI series against the Kangaroos in the last 10 years.
The conditions in this series however, are going to be a real challenge for Australia, who are not used to playing in this weather. The situation gives Pakistan an edge because they have been playing all their home matches in the
desert over the last couple of years.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Ajmal, one of the world’s best spinners, expressed that his team is used to playing in these conditions and they should not have too much trouble in acclimatizing.
He said, "I really don’t think the weather will be a problem for us, as we are also used to the heat in Pakistan and since the playing times have been adjusted to avoid the sun, it will be a small worry for us."
Ajmal himself is going to play a key role in the series and has the potential to bamboozle the Australian batsmen with his variations. The off-spinner wants to concentrate on the basics during the series and hopes to make a difference
for the Men in Green.
The wily spinner believes that the series in UAE provides an opportunity to the Pakistan team to prepare for the upcoming global event.
"It is obviously a big series just before the World Cup but I will be concentrating on what I do best - so I have no special plans or secret deliveries for the Australians and as a team, we will simply bowl with control and play to
the best of our abilities and win this all-important home series," Ajmal added.
