Saeed Ajmal wants to be No. 1 Test bowler – Cricket News Update
The prolific http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal, on Saturday revealed that during the upcoming three-Test series against Sri Lanka, his goal will be to clinch the top spot on ICC’s Test rankings, besides guiding his side to a series win.
The 34-year-old Faisalabad-born currently finds himself second on ICC's Test rankings, just behind South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409. Ajmal trails the Proteas fast bowler by 51 ranking points. He is also second on the ODI bowling rankings, behind another South African
seamer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LL-Tsotsobe-c1842, whom he trails by 14 points.
"Presently my focus is to win the series [in Sri Lanka] for Pakistan. The goal is to achieve the No. 1 spot [on the Test rankings], for that I am putting in a lot of hard work," said Saeed Ajmal while speaking to the media reporters on Saturday, after the
Pakistan Cricket team concluded its preparatory camp for next month’s tour of Sri Lanka, at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859, who failed to make an impact the previous time Pakistan toured the Island nation in July-August 2009, has had a successful 2011 season, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the Test format of the game, claiming 50 scalps.
The right-arm off-spinner dismantled the Sri Lankan batting quite comfortably, the last time both sides played each other in a Test series in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 last October, claiming 18 wickets. He then scythed through the formidable English line-up,
once again on UAE grounds earlier this year, to help Pakistan inflict their first ever Test series whitewash over the Poms.
Ajmal also played mind games against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749, as he kept talking about bowling a mystery delivery, the ‘teesra’ against Strauss and men. Asked, if he had any plans of trying some other mystery delivery against the Islanders during the upcoming tour of Sri
Lanka, the offie said that he was looking forward to deliver his conventional spin with more command.
"There is no need to introduce any new delivery, let us keep things simple," said Ajmal. "Mastering any new delivery takes time and a lot of work is involved in it. With more varieties, more complications are created [for the bowler]. So I would like to
just take control of my conventional spin, which is giving me results," he added further.
Pakistan will kick-start its tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on June 1, with a T20 International at Hambantota.
