Saeed Ajmal’s bowling action is absolutely fine, says Geoff Lawson – Cricket News Update
The former Australian fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Francis-Lawson-c58815 believes that the Pakistani off-spinner, Saeed Ajmal’s bowling action is absolutely fine and added that the British media should concentrate on their team’s performance instead of criticising the opposition.
The British media raised question marks regarding the bowling action of Ajmal after his match-winning performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the Dubai Test. The Pakistani off-spinner picked up seven wickets on the first day of the match and broke the back of the
English batting line-up. He was later named as the Player of the Match for his 10 wickets in the match.
Ajmal made his debut in 2008 when Lawson was coaching the Pakistan team. The former Australian fast bowler revealed that he had the bowling action of Ajmal checked in the National Cricket Academy and it was fine.
Lawson said, “I’d discovered Ajmal at a camp in Karachi, held soon after I took over (2007-08 season). As I wanted to be sure of his action, I had him video-recorded at the Academy in Lahore and the result cleared him."
The Pakistani off-spinner is considered to be one of the best spin bowlers of the current era because of the variations he can bowl. His use of the ‘doosra’ have bamboozled batsmen the world over, and he uses the delivery to good effect.
Lawson expressed that the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) have amended the rules in the last decade and according to new regulations, the off-spinner’s action is completely legal. He feels that the English media should not make a mountain of a molehill
and should accept that their batsmen failed to counter the Pakistani spinners in the Dubai Test.
“Bowlers can bend their arm up to 15 degrees and Ajmal’s was found to be between 5 and 10 degrees. I’d got the tests done only because I didn’t want any controversy once he began playing for Pakistan. Given his talent, it had then been a matter of time,”
he added.
Ajmal is currently ranked as one of the top three bowlers in international cricket across all formats of the game and has been a match-winner for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 since the last couple of years.
