Safe and sound as Washington Nationals’ Wilson Ramos rescued in Venezuela – MLB News
The Venezuelan commandos rescued the Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos, who has been kidnapped for the last four days, after a successful fifteen minutes gun fired operation against the captors. On Saturday, the Venezuelan commandos raided in a
remote mountainous area and after exchange of heavy gunfire for an hour, they managed to save the player, who had lost all hope, as he stated in the media after his release.
Ramos stated that he was not sure that he would reach back home alive as his abductors had made a plan to demand a heavy ransom from either the family or the authorities.
Ramos told reporters in Valencia, his home town, police station. “I didn't know if I was going to get out of it alive. It was very hard for me. It was very hard for my family.”
Four captors have been arrested and all of them are in their 20s, native residents of Venezuela, stated Justice Minister El Aissami. According to El Aissami, police department has also arrested a 60-year-old woman and 74-year-old man, who were supplying
the kidnappers with food and water. El Aissami also told reporters that the police is searching for, what is estimated, four other men. Any of the escapees were either wounded in gun battle or not is still not confirmed, added El Aissami.
National’s general manager Mike Rizzo also celebrated the news when he heard that Ramos was found safe.
"He asked me to thank all who played a role in his rescue, and all those who kept him and his family in their thoughts and prayers," Rizzo said in a statement. "I join Wilson in thanking the many law enforcement officials in Venezuela and investigators with
Major League Baseball who worked tirelessly to ensure a positive ending to what have been a frightening ordeal."
