theres an apartment complex im thinking about going to when i move to jacksonville either next month or october.. lakewood village apartments. its on arcadia drive. its right next to what i THINK to be st johns river. not sure. across that water is the jax NAS. anyways im just wondering if anyone can help me to be sure this area is safe crime wise and all that. thanks.

im moving there because my navy boyfriend is getting stationed there for his first command. i live in texas..so i cant really drive over there to look on my own. but i might be going next month early and stay at a hotel to start looking for an apartment and also a job. the apartment i was looking into has variable lease.. what exactly is that. im thinking its where you pay month by month and stop the lease when your ready to move.. is this correct?

  1. Yes, Arcadia is just off San Jose Blvd on the Southside near the St. Johns. That whole area is fairly nice for the most part - not a high crime area by any means. Not sure what sort of work you're looking for, but living there would have you in fairly easy commute distance from downtown, Southpoint (I-95 @ FL-202) and the Baymeadows area, which include many of the major employers in town.

For temporary housing while you look, there's a lot of the big efficiency studio chains (Extended Stay, InSuites, Suburban Suites, Homewood, etc.) along Phillips Highway, Beach Blvd. and the JTB (FL-202).

Not sure just what variable lease might entail - one possibility could be a higher rate during the summer (tourist season), but just guessing.

  2. anywhere but the north side is ok. nas/ortega area is nice. i used to live on timuquana.
