  1. Gmail has 7GB

  2. I would probably recommend using megaupload, if you don't have your own webhost/space, etc. Megaupload allows up to a 1 GB size file to be sent for free. However, if you have a premium membership, there is no limit in file size. That is, you can send that 5.22 GB file in one-go (so long as your connection doesn't die during the upload). The only thing is the premium account costs $9.99 for 1 month (they take paypal). I have a premium account, as I use megaupload often, and I find it to be absolutely worth it.

Now, in the event that you don't want to spend the $9.99 for a premium account (and my guess is that you won't), have you considered splitting the file into parts, just for the sake of convenient sending? When I say "parts," I don't mean literally altering your file. What I mean is your file would be "divided into sendable portions temporarily." Believe it or not, there are programs where you can "split" a file into equal parts, and then with one click, it puts those parts right back together into the original file you had. (No damage done.) That way, you can upload those parts individually and send whoever is downloading them the links to the individual parts and then tell them to "join the parts together." That might be a bit easier on them as well, as opposed to downloading a 5.22 GB file in one shot.

For example, if I had a 5.22 GB file I need to send someone, here are the steps I would take:

    1) Split the file into 6 parts, using a program called "HJSplit" (which is very popular and totally free):

        part 1: 1 GB

        part 2: 1 GB

        part 3: 1 GB

        part 4: 1 GB

        part 5: 1 GB

        part 6: 0.22 GB

    2) Upload each part to megaupload and save the links on your notepad or bookmark them.

    3) Send the links to a friend, etc., like this:

    Part 1: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah1

    Part 2: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah2

    Part 3: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah3

    Part 4: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah4

    Part 5: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah5

    Part 6: www.megaupload.com/?d=blahblah6

PLUS! Let them know, "after you download these parts, you can re-join the parts into 1 file, by using HJ Split (which you can download here: http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/)"

If you need to upload the files and just keep them for "storage," (not sending) then you can probably sign up for a file storage site anywhere, so long as you're willing to pay a bit. And if you want to store it for free somewhere, and you happen to find a free site that offers enough storage ( for example, 10 GB), I imagine they would still need the individual files to be smaller in size, even if the sum of all files is 10 GB.
