Safe place for passport in cancun?

where is the best place to keep your us passport in cancun? in the hotel, we are staying at the westin or keeping with you or in your suitcase with a lock

There should be a safe where you can store it. Usually if a safe is not in the room, then you can use the one in the hotel by asking at the reception (check-in) desk.

The Westin has safes in each room.  Just lock them up there. There is no need to keep your passport with you, but, if you're concerned, make a copy of it and keep that on your person.  Whatever you do, do NOT take it with you when you go out!

Make sure you put yopur tourist card from immigration with it as you will ned it for your return trip home. Immigration will ask for it back !

If i'm wearing clothes, I have a money-belt that I wear under my clothes, with the passport, tourist card, credit cards and ninety percent of the money--the other ten percent is in my wallet, so if it get lifted, I've only lost a small percentage of the total.

If I'm in my bathing suit, the money-belt is in a large beach bag with books, bottles of water and towels.  Usually, one of us stays with the bag and suns while the other swims and then we switch.
