Question:

Safe swimming in Vietnam during monsoon?

Hoping to holiday in Vietnam during August, and gather that the sea is not safe for swimming at that time. We'd like to hear of any natural (lakes/rivers) swimming possibilities that would be safe for children. Thank you.

  1. Your statement is not true, also you cannot judge Vietnam as  whole,by this i mean conditions in the north can be totaly different than in the south.I live in Nha Trang, which is the main tourist resort in Vietnam and the monsooon rains have little or no affect on us.As for the sea, well you as a parent will decide what is safe and what is not,i would be a little wary of swiming  in the rivers, some are quite polluted and god knows what else lives there.

  2. of course it's safe...what the worst could happen??? u just die...

  3. Who makes this ridiculous stuff up?

The ocean is perfectly safe during the monsoon.  I wouldn't stay in the water during a lightning storm, but what is rain going to do to you, I mean, you're already wet. If anything, the rain makes the water a little cleaner.

Unlike Smiler, I do swim in the rivers. Be careful of tidal currents if you are near the coast. They are really strong where I live. (Ben Tre)

Enjoy your trip, the kids are going to love it.
