Safe to add Checking account to a PayPal account?

Is PayPal a safe way to buy things online if you want to link it to your bank's checking account? I want to make purchases off Amazon and eBay. Would PayPal work for these sites? Also, can I make a transaction from one PayPal account with another account if I want to make a private transaction with someone else?

  1. / Yes, Paypal is safe to tie to your checking account.

Paypal is a great way to protect your checking account information from others.

    Paypal is owned by Ebay.

Never divulge information from a source that contacts you.  Only divulge information from a source that you contact.

By this, I mean, there are many spam and fishing Emails which claim to be from Paypal, and will ask you to sign in and give your checking account information.  Don't trust that site.

YOU log on to the Paypal website, then enter the information to set up your account.

Once your Paypal account is setup, you never need to enter checking account information there again.

Also, if you have a dispute with a Seller, you can use the Paypal site to settle it.

  2. PayPal is safe. Some folks have had problems, but I haven't had one in the 6 years I've had an account. It's linked to my bank account, and I have my debit card listed, also. PayPal can be used with any merchant that accepts it. And yes, you can transfer funds to anyone with an email address. Check PayPal's site for details.

  3. Hey Dann,

Yes, Paypal works for both ebay and amazon. I've had my checking account connected with paypal since 2005 and have had no issues. I believe the threshold for deposits in your checking from paypal is $500 a month for a regular account. You may check paypal.com to verify that particular information, however.

But yes, paypal is safe. Just make sure you only login through their site and don't respond to weird spam emails you get claiming to be paypal in your inbox.

    Good luck. :)
