Safe to swim in lake at 6 months pregnant?

I'm planning to go camping for a week with my husband and the inlaws to their cabin. Everyone plans to go swimming in the closest lake, and my husband and my nieces would love for me to go swimming too. My only concern is that I'm almost 6 months pregnant, and not sure if it was ok to swim in the lake, due the water temperature(might be pretty cold). It's a very clean and well taken care of lake. Do you think it should be safe to go swimming(even for 15 mins at a time), or do you think it would be better for me to watch from the beach?

  1. My OB advised me to only swim in pools and to avoid lakes, ponds, ect. That was when I was about 24 weeks. He said that swimming it great exercise but he wouldn't take his chances in something where the water isn't treated and where you can't see the bottom.

  2. I think you should be fine.  Since you will be outdoors, make sure you are getting enough fluids to stay hydrated and pack some snacks.  Take a rest when you need it and have lots of fun!!!

  3. I'm 36 weeks and having been swimming in the lake since the start of summer. Nothing wrong with me... :) But you may be quicker to get a sunburn. I learned that the hard way.

  4. I went swimming all the time when I was pregnant with both of my girls...I was due in Nov with the first and Dec with the 2nd...swimming while pregnant is the best thing...it is very relaxing it takes weight of of you back and legs....I would go if I were you...you are concerned about the temp..you aren't going to stay in long if its that cold....your baby is warm inside of you...

  5. Swimming will be great for your joints, and take some of the weight off. If it's abnormally cold, then ask your doctor about what a safe temperature would be. If you're uncomfortable, then chances are your baby will be uncomfortable. If you're just a bit chilled though, I'm sure it will be fine. Just be sure to ask your doctor just to be certain. You don't want to miss out on all of that water fun!
