Safe to travel even if you are no longer connected with your company?

I have H1B visa and it was stamped on my passport. It is valid until 2010. My question is, is it safe to travel outsied the US even if you are no longer connected with the company who sponsored you, like for instance, less than a month? what do you think?

2nd question is: if for example you got a new employer and sponsored you, is it still safe to travel outside the USA? even if you changed your employer but you have valid passport and H1b Visa stamp..??

Hope you can advice me...thank you

  1. The H1B visa is not portable.  If you leave your sponsoring employer, you have lost your status.  Your new employer should have filed a new H1B petition for you.  If the new employer didn't then you have no status.  You have broken the terms of your admission to the USA and may be properly excluded.  The length of your trip abroad is irrelevant.

  2. I think on your visa or some supporting documents should stand the name of your employer and visa allows you only to enter the country and to stay there - the officer at the border will look on that document - and the information there about your previos company will be already not valid. I'm not sure how soon the information about change of your employer gets to the base. I wouldn't risk on your place to leave the US while you're in the process still.

I think it's better to contact the lawyer anyway.
