I live here in Hawaii, but im taking a trip to Boston, and I'm stopping over in Florida to go surfing. Will it be safe to drive throughout the country with my surfboards on my rental? or will people try and steal it... Cause in Hawaii it's totally safe!

  1. Yes, someone will steal your board, or try to steal it. When you stop for meals, put it inside the car. When you stop overnight, bring it in with you. Go to any east coast surfing town, and you will lots of home made posters asking surfers to be on the look out for this guy's or that guy's stolen board. And don't blame east coast surfers for it, it the scum bags who steal 'em and take straight to the pawn shops who are responsible. Same thing goes for leaving it unattended on the beach for too long.

I have been surfing for 42 years, and never lost one, but I know others who have. But, i also am fairly cautious about keeping my board within arms reach, or locked up in the car.

  2. I can only speak for Florida: yes, some s***k would steal your stick and most likely the car too. Bring the board in with you at night, and when stopping to eat, park where you can keep an eye on it.

  3. Nope, never heard of anyone takin' another person's board.

I live in Australia, and it's fine here.

  4. No one tries to steal my board here in L.A.  I would think Boston would be the same?  (sorry... dunno)   Try to see what the scene is like by calling some surf shops out that way, maybe?  Have a great trip!

  5. I dont think they would steal boards there. I suggest not leaving them outside overnight and stuff like that. Maybe try putting them in different board bags. Have a great trip! Hope the surf picks up for ya!
