  1. AmericaEconomia.com, together with ISI Emerging Markets, yearly comes with a ranking of the best cities to make busines in Latin America. The final index is a compound of several indicators including GDP per capita, communications and how safe is the city.

I do not have the ranking with me, but I remember from this year's ranking a lot of Mexican cities are considered safer than Tegucigalpa (Honduras' capital); nevertheless, Tegucigalpa -if I remember correctly- is not mentioned as completely unsafe.

Now, I have not been to Honduras, but I don't see it a place where I would be afraid of going to. I think the US have more dangerous cities than Tegucigalpa.

Talking about Mexico, practically you can see it this way: Mexico City = unsafe; rest of the country = safe.

The toll in crime in Mexico City is so high that people living in it are already used to it and think that's the standard for normality (!!). And the rest of the country is very safe. Unfortunately, lately, because of drug dealers, some of the peaceful cities in Mexico are having a bad time.

Safest cities in Mexico I would say: Chihuahua, Querétaro, Aguascalientes, León, Monterrey, Torreón, Hermosillo, Mexicali, Pachuca, Mérida.

    Hope this was useful.

  2. The bad fame of Mexico City is very exaggeratet, Mexico City is the second biggest city in the world obviusly this means that the rating of crimes is high as other biggest cities in the world like London, Chicago, L.A.

If you go there just use the common sense like don't go to darker and solitary streets.

  3. I've heard Guadalajara and San Miguel are safe

  4. Safest city in Mexico, Aguascalientes, San Miguel de Allende, Morelia, and Guanajuato, I do not know if we are safer than Honduras.

  5. Honduras is notoriously violent. Many times more then the U.S. So I doubt Mexico is more dangerous.

  6. Safe?  Anywhere the cops are crooked is not safe.  Go to Europe if you want a safer location.
