I'd recommend Bloemfontein (Freestate) it has the lowest crime there and it's still very beautiful..!!

Some places in the Cape are nice but if you do go to South Africa NEVER EVER GO INTO TOWNSHIPS!!!

Even using the ANC downward manipulated crime stats it is definitely not Cape Town. In fact Cape Town has the highest per capita violent crime in South Africa.Of the bigger Cities Bloemfontein has the least crime but it is a joke to suggest anywhere in South Africa is "safe."

cape town is probably the safest, as it's the most policed. nice vibe, various things to do. but when driving around at night make sure you keep your doors locked and bags under seats, they like their smash n grabs!

There is no such thing as a safe city in South Africa any more , certainly not Cape Town where I have been mugged five times - the police only laugh - I went to the police station bleeding with torn clothing , in a terrible state after being assaulted in a main street of Cape Town in broad daylight, but as I could walk it was not considered serious enough to investigate.

yeah I'd agree, Cape Town is probably the safest. Jo'berg is a lovely place but whenever I go there I find I feel a lot more threatened than when in Cape Town. If you're planning to go to SA then good luck with it, it's an amazing country... also, be very wary of some of the taxis always ask for official proof

I am South African and I left there because I was held at gunpoint and the cops advised that there is nothing they can do as the hijackers did not kill me!! only then if they killed me could I report it!! er????? I'll be dead then????? but there is no SAFE PLACE IN SOUTH AFRICA..It was safe before yes..but now..Cape Town is not safe..Johannesburg..well...unless you go to bed and lock all adjoining doors, booby trap the place just incase the smart? jacks get in..you are kinda safe!! South Africa is a beautiful country but there are loads and loads of bad rotten eggs that live there and make it what it is today and the government seems to agree with their tactics!! Why not go somewhere else..Mauritius, Seychelles?? You could ask for an armoured car and security guards if you go to SA..but then, they could be bribed as well!! Oh by the way..I am not a white South Arican..I fought the cause to help free South Africa to wipe out apartheid..and I got bit in the bum!! Cast aside as I am not a backstabber and now not part of the noveau riche..sad..that it had to turn out this way..right..but now..those that are in government are just interested in filling their own coffers and fattening themselves..
