  1. Paris is safer than American cities.  The rate of violent crime is low.  However, Paris is notorious for pickpockets, so watch your purse and your wallet.

If you are looking for a really safe place, try the Prefecture of Police, 1 rue de Lutece, 75004 Paris

  2. Paris is mostly safe - as big cities go.

The riots a couple of years ago were concentrated on the north east and eastern suburbs of Paris vis: Clichy sous Bois & Rosny sous Bois.

There were also problems in the southern suburbs of Grigny, Evry & Corbeil-Essonnes.

In the main any problems of this nature tend to happen in the high rise "cités" and not the sort of areas that tourists generally visit.

I suggest that you pay more attention to pickpockets on the métro and beggars in tunnels between stations. Beware, some are children and they are very cunning.

Also take care on the RER suburban trains, which can occasionally have people using scams to try and get some money from you. Not something that happens all the time, but frequent enough for you to be on your guard.

  3. Violent crime, or at least that kind which a tourist could potentially experience, is lowest in the 7th and 16th arrondissements.  The most touristy areas (8th and 5th) suffer mostly from petty crimes like pickpocketing.  Hope that helps you.

  4. paris is pretty safe..teh most dangerous i have seen it was during the world cup, crowds and crowds of people walking to the stadium..but safe it is, paris..

  5. Presidential palace.

  6. Paris is generally safe.

Violent crime is largely confined to the suburbs where the poor, especially the non-white poor,  have been relegated to large neo-Stalinist public housing projects.
