Question:

Safest water pipe for human health?

What's the best material to use for water supply pipe (inside a home) in terms of human health? I know PVC is a no-no, and there's a big controversy in California regarding PEX. But what about copper vs. polyethylene? And in terms of flexible tubing, is PE and HDPE the same thing? I'm interested in a material for water-supply line to a refrigerator. Thanks!

  1. Whenever you use water for consumption from the tap, always use cold water as it carries the least amount of chemicals, especially heavy metals and poly chlorides.

  2. I prefer DU (depleted Uranium) pipe....

But in all seriousness copper is probably best, as it has proven that it is safe. PEX may leech minute traces of plasticizer, and manufacturing byproducts..

  3. i'd opt for copper as long as you do not run cabonated water thru it (that will get you sick)... there are flexible copper pipe, usually put on water heaters
