Safety Ed Reed optimistic about return to Baltimore Ravens next season-NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are expecting back safety, Ed Reed, in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season following confirmation from the player for return into 11th year of his professional league career.
He is one of the veterans that the management has seen to be willing to retain for a few more seasons given that the defence has always been at forefront of their game strategy.
Reed was speaking to local media in Miami after his induction with his teammate, Bryant McKinnie, in the Hall of Fame.
The player told reporters that he is aiming for return next season and was waiting for hearing a confirmation from the team.
He said:
"There's a lot of talk out there. I'm not going to say I'm 50-50, because I'm not. I want to play football. But it's something me and my team have been discussing the last couple of weeks.”
Reed added:
“My partners, they do a great job of making sure I know the pros and cons of what's going on with my body and with the organization and where we're at. I plan on doing it, but depending, it could change. If it was up to me, I'd be with a walking cane out
there. I don't know, man. I think four to five years is a reality for me."
The player has remained a part of the team during their recent playoff berths. In spite of the team’s insignificant achievement in the second round, Reed is among the hopefuls who believe Ravens will be making it to the Super Bowl in the near future.
Ravens have already retained veterans like Ray Rice and quarterback, Joe Flacco, and are likely to land a deal to the safety.
However, it remains uncertain if the new deal will come with any change in contract including reduction in the benefits.
He went on the say:
"Baltimore is home for me unless they say otherwise."
Reed’s last year’s record includes 52 tackles and three interceptions. He was one of the leading performers of the team, taking it to the American Football Conference (AFC) championship.
The player is also well known for the capability of generating controversies within the team. For example, he has brought the Flacco into a controversy in the later part of the last season by saying that the player must prove himself to be a quarterback
better than others to increase win chances of their team.
Later, he managed to calm down the situation by playing down his remarks saying he had not meant to offend the quarterback.
By then, the media had capitalised on the opportunity and kept feeding it with excessive reporting of the incident. At the end, the situation improved with interference from the team’s coach and other officials.
