Safety Quintin Demps stays with Houston Texans on fresh terms-NFL News
Safety, Quintin Demps, who was an unrestricted free agent, has agreed to come back to the Houston Texans on a fresh deal.
Demps was with Texans in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season and had apparently impressed the side with his form and record.
Following expiry of his previous deal, he made himself available on the free agency since it started on March 13, 2012.
Now, Texans’ management has confirmed landing him a new contract but did not disclose the tenure, value and other details of the deal.
His last year’s record included 22 tackles and two interceptions in the nine games he played for the side.
Furthermore, the player was successful in returning five kickoffs for 169 yards. This includes the longest, 50-yard, ever kickoff returned by a Texans’ player in the team’s history.
Demps originally joined the Houston Texans in 2010 and has been with the side since then. In absence of any clue if the team was interested to retain him for another year or any longer period of time, he became the unrestricted free agent.
Until recently, there was no confirmed interest for him from any team from the league and this provided Texans with an opportunity to reconsider him for more seasons to come.
Since both sides have not disclosed the tenure of the deal it remains uncertain how long is he going to stick in Houston.
There are some rumours that he was brought back on a long-term deal, certainly lengthier than the previous one.
He was recruited by the Philadelphia Eagles as a fourth-round draft pick in 2008 from UTEP of the US college league.
Having played for Eagles for a couple of years, he joined Houston Texans and so far stays with them. His league record consists of three interceptions, one sack, 34 tackles and one touchdown. He also returned 63 kickoffs for 1,638 yards on 26 yards per game
average.
The player was one of the leading performers in Texans’ 2011 triumph, which included the win of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division title and berth into the playoffs, for the first time in history of the team.
Now, he is one of the few unrestricted free agency players that the team has retained for more seasons and expects him to come out in the new season with even improved form.
The Houston Texans are coming back into 2012 NFL season as a Super Bowl contender, which requires the side to maintain hundred per cent fitness and form of the squad.
They recently had positive news from the injury front of quarterback, Matt Schaub, who had missed most part of the 2011 season with a foot injury.
