Question:

Safety in Home Daycare?

by  |  earlier

Hello everyone.

I was wondering what safety percautions must be taken before starting a home daycare system. I will be babysitting in my common living room for the most part. So I will get safety handles for the door k***s, safety lights, and also I'm removing any glass or unsafe furniture in the common living room. Is there any other safety percautions that must be taken?

Thanks a tons!

  1. Baby gates by the doors.

    Fire guards.

    Window locks.

  2. smoke detector

    carbon monoxide detector

lamp cords hidden so they can't be pulled

    outlet covers

  3. Outlet covers are a big one, gates on stairways, smoke detectors...Your state social services website should have a list of safety precautions that need to be met prior to provding care. Alot of states are now requiring a license to care for more than one family of children. Also there are many more requirements to be met such as having enough paly equipment for each child to have at least 3 different options when all toys are being utilized, smoke alarms must be interconnected (when one goes off, they all do) Carbon Monoxide detector, chemicals and other hazarous materails locked in a cabinet/room that is in no way accessible to the children...many, many things. Best of luck.

  4. Receptacle Covers

    Fire Alarm

Co2 Alarm if you have a gas furnace.

Removing all objects that a child could get hurt on.

  5. You should actually check with your local licensing people regarding daycares. Even if you're not required to hold a license, it's nice tos till follow the same guidelines. For peace of mine...parents feel much better knowing you take the right steps.

Also, might I add that you should have a handbook and a contract...even if it's something you type out.

ALWAYS cover your butt, even if you're just trying to make some extra cash...because someone will always complain about something and unless you have it clearly spelled out, it'll be a neverending saga....

All that aside, my son attended an in-home daycare for 6 months and he did great over there. He loved the kids and his teacher.

    Good luck!
