What are 5 things you should remember to make it more safe when using a Chisel?

  1. Always drive the tool away from yourself.  If it slips it won't hurt you.

Always make sure the tool is appropriately sharp (that is, a wood chisel should be razor sharp, a 'cold' chisel for metal or rock or concrete should be dull).

Never hit a chisel with a hammer unless it is designed for that kind of work.

Don't use a chisel for prying, it's hardened and is likely to be brittle.

Like all sharp tools, keep chisels put up in a safe place, not lying around on the bench where you can put an arm down on it and hurt yourself.
