Safeway Classic 2012: Yani Tseng ties for 28th in first round
Current world number one Yani Tseng posted a 70 in the opening round of Safeway Classic 2012 to tie for the 28th position on the leaderboard.
Tseng kicked off the Safeway Classic 2012 at Pumpkin Ridge’s Ghost Creek Course with plenty of confidence, but could not impress her fans.
The field of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, which is featuring a number of competent players, saw lesser-known players rule the leaderboard in the first round.
The Taiwanese star amazed the spectators when she drained her first birdie on the very first hole of the front nine. Tseng’s fans, who are desperately waiting to see their favourite golfer get back in her old
form, convinced themselves after seeing her shooting a birdie on the first hole that the world number one is back again.
However, Tseng made several mistakes after making a good start. She lost her momentum on the second hole as she could not keep a grip on her putt and wound up registering a bogey. The LPGA giant then parred
two holes in a row and posted another birdie on the difficult par-3 fifth.
Tseng appeared to be much better than she did at the last tournament — Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012. She failed to make the cut last week, which made a severe dent in her overall reputation.
Commentators said that if Tseng wants to make a comeback and end her victory drought, a soil finish should be her goal for the Safeway Classic 2012 and the coming CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, set to be played
next week at The Vancouver Golf Club.
Tseng expressed her optimism during an interview before she teed off the Safeway Classic 2012. She said that she does not lose hope and tries to give her best shot, which has helped her remain strong despite
performing bad in recent tournaments.
"I try everything I can. I'm working hard. I just work on location. This week, I feel very good, I feel like the old Yani is getting close and I feel like I need to get started on what I'm here for,” the LPGA
titan said.
“This is a sport I love and there is no way I can be more appreciative than anyone else. I feel that I have a lot of advantage this week and I can do it. Just enjoy more than anybody on the course this week".
