  1. I work in West End Theatre and have regularly travelled home after 11.00p.m. at night.  If I miss the last tube, then I catch a night bus home (40 mins approx).  There are generally quite a few people on the buses so I haven't yet felt uncomfortable.  I do sit as near to the driver as I can.  Don't have your mobile on display, or cut yourself off by listening to music on headphones.  I believe that there are some routes which have some trouble, but I have not yet witnessed anything more than drunk people sleeping!  Try it out and once it becomes normal for you, there should be less worry.  If at all concerned it seems like it is quite a short trip, so if too late, perhaps the treat of an occasional cab. (It costs £30 for me, so cabs unless paid for by work are out of the question).

As the weather is getting better, I also cycle (takes an hour).  Plenty of reflective clothing, lights and following the rules of the road and so far, have had no problems.  I have a mixture of backroads and bus lanes from the Centre of town to North London.

  2. Well the tube stops not long after midnight so if you are leaving later than midnight it will be the night bus. I would say with anything that you need to be sensible about it. I would do it (travel late at night )but you do need to consider the area you are travelling to and how far your journey is at the other end. I would be more cautious about that part of your journey than in central London on public transport as there is always plenty of people about.

I would perhaps sit downstairs on the bus
