Saginaw hopes to land his 11th victory of the season in the Alex M. Robb Stakes at the Big A
The leading horse on the New York Racing Association circuit in wins this year, Saginaw, is in a very good position to win a North American-best 11th race in 2012, as he is currently in a tie with Clean Jean and Winning Dubai for visiting the winner’s circle more than any Thoroughbred in North America this year.
He tied with those two horses after winning the Gravesend Handicap at Aqueduct Racetrack on 15 December, 2012, going six furlongs against open company. David Jacobson’s trainee was better than Royal Currier in the stretch and defeated them all by covering the distance in 1 minute and 9.40 seconds.
Now, the 6-year-old horse by Peruvian is eyeing his 11th victory of the season in the $75,000 Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack on 26 December, 2012, over the venue’s dirt track.
Saginaw will be going over 1 1/16 miles for the fourth time in his career, and the last time he did was this year in the Carr Heaven Stakes at Belmont Park, and he came out of the race as a victor.
2012 has been a brilliant year by Drawing Away Stable owned horse, who started this year claimers, starter handicaps, and allowance optional claimers, but was introduced to stakes company soon after, and among those horses Saginaw thrived, stacking up victories for his connections all over New York.
Bred in New York by Ted Taylor, Saginaw this year at Aqueduct Racetrack has raced six times, and has gone on to win 5 times there, and chances are that he will post his sixth victory of the season there in his seventh start at the venue.
Out of Devil’s Bag mare Devilzene, Saginaw in all his 13 starts ran at Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course, and in most of his starts he has finished either first or second, and only once worse than that in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap (Met Mile) when he finished sixth to winner Shackleford.
This time around though in the Alex M. Robb Stakes, Saginaw will go against four other New York breds for his 11th victory of the season.
