Question:

Sago Palm?

I purchased a small potted Sago palm a few days ago and since then, all the individual needles have started to curl. Some are turning brown. It looked perfectly healthy when I brought it home.

I have it on my front porch. It's been in the high 80s during the day and low 70s at night. I gave it a few ounces of water a few days ago when the curling first started but it's gotten worse.

Should I give it more water? More sunlight? Fertalizer? I've never had a sago palm do this before!

  1. Does your porch get any sunlight? Sagos need sunlight to grow properly, and watering during periods of drought. Mine are planted in the yard in direct sun, and are doing well. I water them once or twice a week, when there is no rainfall.

  2. Wet dry cycle                             Just a note-----------  Sago palms are great

when the pups get bigger I plant them separate and grow more,

  3. WATER it right away it is dried out at the roots.  We have a Sago Palm and planted it. Once it becomes established they are great.

It is best to put a saucer under the pot to help between heavy waterings. Keep water in the saucer about every 3 days until you can plant it in the ground. By the way they grow more in diameter than they do up.  Ours is about 5 ft diameter now with pups.

  4. It needs some water.  Don't fertilize at this time, its needs all its energy to recuperate.  I don't understand why you didn't give it some water.
