Sai Praneeth B. passes severe test in Men’s Singles first round at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012
India’s talented player Sai Praneeth B. passed a severe test in Men’s Singles first round where he narrowly overpowered Indonesia’s Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo at the SCG Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday, June 6.
The Indian shuttler, who has been delivering gutsy performance for the last one year, had to employ all skills he had in his reserves to get rid of stubborn Indonesian rival who played well but not enough to escape defeat with a respectable margin.
Wisnu Yuli, on the other hand, started his run in a dominating manner in opening game but could not remain consistent and eventually lost this entertaining battle in rubber games.
In the first game, it was the Indonesian who did not show any respect to the Indian and took a wonderful lead until the interval.
After the break, Praneeth executed powerful shots to reduce the deficit but failed to destroy the defence of his Indonesian opponent and lost the set with a 15-21 score.
Praneeth played safe badminton in the second game to avoid any unforced errors and remained in lead against his Indonesian challenger until the break.
After the interval, the Indonesian showed his class and levelled the score at 16-16. From this stage, both men progressed closely on the board until the score reached at 23-23.
At this dramatic stage, it was the impressive Indian who played with confidence and took the set with a tight 25-23 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Wisnu Yuli played flawless badminton and established a comfortable gap of 11-5 until the one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, the trailing Praneeth did not give up and played positive badminton which helped him to end the deficit by reaching at 15-15.
The Indian remained focused and also created pressure on his Indonesian opponent while keeping the pace of rallies at the maximum level and wrapped up the game with an impressive 21-17 score on the board.
Praneeth showed his class and ousted Wisnu Yuli by ending the first round clash in rubber games with a thrilling score of 15-21, 25-23 and 21-17.
