Sai Praneeth B. stuns Wong Wing Ki in second round encounter at Badminton Asia Championships
India never remains short of talent in Men’s Singles category as an upcoming Indian shuttler Sai Praneeth B. showed his elevated skills when he defeated higher ranked Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong in the second round encounter of Badminton Asia Championships
2012 in China, on Wednesday, April 18.
The un-seeded Praneeth proved that he is ready to take bugger challenges as he outplayed the World Number 19 Wing Ki who was 11th seed in the main draw of the tournament.
The spirited Indian played with superb control in his shots and ended the match in straight sets by working extremely well for 33 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, despite being the favourite to win the match Wing Ki could not live up to expectations and lost the match without impressing the crowd.
In the first game, both men played fast badminton by keeping the bird low in all areas of the court.
Praneeth played aggressive badminton while Wing Ki tried to control rallies at net. They remained close until the mid-game break in the first set.
After the interval, the score remained tight as no one dropped his speed at any stage. They did not drop their speed at any stage and reached at the ending phase.
At this crucial stage, Praneeth showed his impressive craft when he became quicker and earned the ending points to win the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, Wing Ki played better badminton but failed to take a considerable advantage as his opponent also geared up his speed.
Until the break 60 second break, both men remained positive and close on the board.
After the mid-game interval, Praneeth played remarkably well as he controlled the pace of rallies and managed to establish a decent lead.
The lower ranked Indian shuttler remained on track and thrashed Wing Ki by winning the second game with a tremendous 21-16 score on the board.
Praneeth proved his worth as he won the battle in straight sets by raking 33 minutes with a superb score of 21-19 and 21-16.
