Sai Praneeth outshines Wisnu Yuli in first round of Malaysia Open GP Gold
It was a perfect start for young Indian shuttler Sai Praneeth B in Malaysia Open GP Gold as he outclassed Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo in first round on May 2, 2012.
The opening match turned a tough trial of mental and physical strength for both shuttlers as it prolonged to one hour but Sai Praneeth registered his class by putting favourable figures of 24-22, 18-21 and 21-16.
On the other hand, Wisnu Yuli crashed out of the event despite of putting an admirable effort throughout three exhausting sets.
Both contenders showed their intentions in opening game of the match when they made first set a nerve-racking tussle. There was lot of drama until game point situation as Wisnu Yuli was dominating in most part of the game but his challenger came back from
nowhere and clinched first match point.
The Indonesian established a comfortable lead with 11-7 before the interval and maintained his dominance until 17-11 score position.
At this critical situation, Sai Praneeth did not lose nerves and caught his competitor at 18-18 by pocketing six back-to-back points.
Both shuttlers made the spectators gasp as four times they reached at game point situation. This battle got resolved in India’s favour with concluding margin of 24-22.
However, Wisnu Yuli struck the right balance in following game. This time he played flawless badminton and did not spare any loop holes.
In first half of the set, he had a slight edge over his rival with 11-10 but he raised his total in later part of the set and put his opponent under great pressure.
The Indonesian added five quick points in his total to reach at 16-11 and then he clinched second match point with a significant margin of 21-18.
This 1-1 match score position brought life back into the match as the audience was expecting a lot of action in third and final set.
In start, Wisnu Yuli was leading with 15-9 but Sai Praneeth geared up himself and swept the board by winning 12 out of last 13 points.
The Indian registered an impressive margin of 21-16 and reserved a berth in second round of the event where he will face Sukamta Evert of Indonesia.
