Sail across Pacific?

My friend and I dream of sailing across Pacific.

What kind of boat do we need(safe but economical), and what's cost for the trip?

before you even think about it you should have alot of sailing evperience. If you don't know the type of boat you need you probably don't have enough. The best thing to do, is try to get on a crew near your home port. Learn the ways of the ocean, and take mariner's classes. Just because you have a great pair of hiking shoes doesn't mean you should try to climb everest. The pacific is a beautiful deadly place.

the best way in my mind is to buy a catermaran 200,000$ fix it up 50,000$ and just go.
