Question:

Sailboat Mooring?

Can I moor an O'Day 23 with a 2'3" draft in only 2'6" of water (at mean low tide) in a protected harbor? I realize at low tide, on a very windy day, the small keel (with retracted centerboard) may bump the bottom, which is mud, but is this a problem?

  1. I would look for another place. Mean low water does not account for the extremes, which happen in the Spring and Fall. Hitting mud is not as much of a problem as hitting your own anchor and any other debris abandoned in the water, like tools, cinder blocks, or old anchors.
