I'm new to this and on the market for a garage-able sailboat that can 1. accept a small motor for the marina and 2. be stored in a one-car garage and 3. POSSIBLY be able to a little distance sailing (along the coast)

I was looking for something similar to the Hunter 146 but also my budget isn't that great.. Any suggestions and possible boats?

  1. You might look for something like a com-pac 16. You can find them for less than $3,000, they sail pretty well, and have 'cruising comforts' and the ability for coastal cruising (they have a small cuddy cabin to get out of the rain and weather). plus they fit well on a trailer, and can probably handle up to around 4hp.

for a little more length, something like an ODay Mariner or DaySailer will be around $3000 or less, and is 19' or 17' depending on model. Still very easily trailerable.
