hmm just want some peoples opinions, we have a 42tf liveaboard ocean going sailboat, we have had it for 10years now, and had a great time living on it in Europe, its a custom built sampson, ..but circumstances have changed and we have a young daughter now, bought a house and trying to be 'sensible' and settle down, ...now the boat is just going to waste, she is in great working order, but in need of some cosmetic improvements (a paint job!!! which we are starting this weekend!!) ..but it just seems a shame that she is standing idle doing nothing, i know its not a good time to sell (credit crunch etc).. so i was thinking.. do you think anyone would be interested in a swop for a moterhome?? ..is it worth trying? or shall we keep our boat until our daughter is a bit older and go sailing again???? aaarggh i dunno what to do... any opinions please??

  1. what a shame you couldent hang on to it till my sad times end and i come over next year...we may be able to work out a deal....i could fly over and sail back home to oz....works for me......seamanab x

  2. When I was very young my parents shared out their boat so that all the costs were split and the boat was used.  We mainly shared with friends and family but it could work with other people maybe?  It was great fun going sailing with the others and although we later sold the boat when I was about 3 I can still remember sailing in it.  I still sail and I think if your daughter is anything like I was when I was young she will also enjoy sailing:)  If you got a motor home you would just end up driving for miles which in my opinion would be boring!  If you didn't want to share it you could lend it out to friends?

  3. what about letting someone look after her and sail her for a few years untill your daughters grown up a bit and your ready to go back to sea.Id say that would only be a few years before the call of the sea pulls you back. But dont sell her it would be like loosing a member of the family.

  4. When it came time for me to hang up the sails I went the motor home route.  Contrary to Hattie, it's not boring to cruise on the asphalt.  If you are bored, you went to the wrong place. You can come and go as you please, always have the self contained freedom, don't worry about storms and best of all, I don't wake up every 30 mins. worrying about the anchor dragging.

  5. List it on Craigslist
